Description
The glacier marathon in Pitztal is a real classic among marathons in Austria. The glacier marathon has been held since 2006 and has enjoyed a steady increase in the number of participants ever since. Almost 1,000 participants now take part in the Glacier Marathon every year to complete this extraordinary marathon.
There are three distances to choose from at the Glacier Marathon, meaning that runners of different abilities can take part in this running event. You can choose between an 11.2 km run, a half marathon and a marathon. The running route itself leads through an impressive mountain backdrop that will leave you speechless. The special thing about the glacier marathon, however, is that you run downhill to the fountain town of Imst. As a marathon participant, you will have to cover 1,298 metres in altitude downhill. For a change, however, you also have to overcome 313 metres of ascent. So if you want to tackle a different kind of mountain run, there's no way around the Glacier Marathon.
