Corporate runs are an event that is becoming increasingly popular. Especially in recent years, running events have experienced a boom and are now organised in many German cities.
Corporate runs became famous through the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge, which has been organised in America since 1977. In 1990 it also became known in Europe and in 1993 the first company run was organised in Frankfurt. It is one of the largest corporate runs with around 70,000 participants.
Since 2000, there have been corporate runs in more and more German cities, some of which are supported by health insurance companies, cities, sports clubs and commercial enterprises. There are also company run series in which runs are organised in several cities. These end with a corporate running championship in which the best teams from each individual company run compete and decide the winner of the best among themselves.
The health concept behind running and exercise in the fresh air is also increasingly becoming a common cause in companies. Companies want to motivate their employees to stay healthy and fit. At the same time, a corporate runs is a very fun event and you can get to know your colleagues away from your desk.
It is not uncommon for small training groups to be set up within the company to prepare for the running event together. This strengthens cohesion and increases team spirit.
There are corporate runs as individual, group and relay races. Relay races, in which teams of 5 people compete together, are very popular. Corporate runs usually take place in the evening so that you can travel to the start together with your colleagues. This strengthens the team spirit even before the actual start. After the race, all the runners from a company often get together to celebrate completing the race.
The distance of corporate runs is between 4 and 7 kilometres, so that anyone can take part, regardless of age and fitness level. The fun of running and the health and community spirit are clearly more important than the running performance.
