Description
Every year on the first weekend in October, Bremen turns into a hotspot for marathon runners. This is when the swb Marathon in Bremen takes place, with around 8,000 marathon runners taking part every year. This makes the marathon in Bremen one of the largest marathon events in the whole of northern Germany.
The Bremen Marathon runs right through the heart of Bremen's city centre. Since 2010, the start and finish area has been located between the historic town hall and the Roland statue, which is one of Bremen's most famous landmarks. The ingenious backdrop gives the marathon a very special flair, which naturally attracts thousands of visitors to the route. In addition to the marathon, a half marathon and a 10 km fun run are also organised.
The course record for the Bremen Marathon has been held by Jarosław Cichocki from Poland since 2006 with a time of 02:22:56 hours. German runner Inga Ruhl has held the women's course record since 2007 with a time of 02:48:03 hours.
