Description
The Brockenlauf is one of the most traditional mountain runs that Germany has to offer. The Brockenlauf is being held for the 54th time this year. However, the Brockenlauf was first held in 1927, although there have been repeated interruptions in the years since. Every year, several hundred participants follow the fascination of the Brockenlauf and don't want to miss the opportunity to climb the Brocken on foot.
There are two distances to choose from for the Brockenlauf. You can choose between a 9.6 km and a 26.2 km run. The 9.6 km run is the so-called Ilsesteinlauf, which leads directly past the Ilsestein. The running route itself leads along great natural paths and has a continuous incline. In total, you have to overcome over 480 metres in altitude on the Ilsesteinlauf. In the main run, you even have to climb 890 metres before you reach the top of the Brocken. In total, you have to run 12 kilometres uphill and 14 kilometres downhill. You must also bear in mind that the climate can change constantly at the summit. There can be icy winds or bright sunshine. You should therefore definitely be prepared for this.
