Description
The Berlin Half Marathon is the little brother of the big Berlin Marathon. But small only refers to the distance of the Berlin Half Marathon. With over 30,000 participants, the Berlin Half Marathon is one of the largest half marathon events in the world and is almost on a par with the Berlin Marathon in terms of participants.
The history of the Berlin Half Marathon began in the 1980s in East Berlin (Berlin Lichtenberg). Since then, the Berlin Half Marathon has been a permanent fixture on the Berlin running scene. In the meantime, the Berlin Half Marathon has achieved a real cult status that extends far beyond the capital's borders. The field of participants in the Berlin Half Marathon is just as internationally mixed as in its big brother, the Berlin Marathon. The running course is a circular route that runs directly along Karl-Marx-Allee and past some of the city's most important landmarks.
The course record for the Berlin Marathon is held by the Kenyan Patrick Makau with a time of 00:58:56 minutes.
